Who are we?

The beginnings

The eMAG story began in 2001, in an apartment, with 8 employees and 122 orders (IT products) delivered with 2 Dacia cars.

We knew then that it is essential to anticipate the customers’ needs and pay attention to their every visit on the website. We built the platform with this state of mind.

We developed constantly, we diversified the offer for our clients by adding new categories: phones, electronics, home appliances, we increased our team and we learned a lot.



The first Black Friday edition in Bulgaria and introducing Marketplace

On 29th of November 2013 we had made our first Black Friday campaign in Bulgaria, familiar all over the world as the day with the biggest trade discounts in the year. This first eMAG campaign in Bulgaria exceeded our expectations and that continued with all the next BF campaigns.

On the start of Black Friday in 2013, exactly at 07:45 the online visitors on our web page eMAG.bg exceeded 45 000 – more than National Stadium Vasil Levski’s capacity. Only in the first half of the campaign we had more than 15 000 finished orders from clients. For the all day the visitors on our web page were more than 1 200 000 and we had more than 52 000 sold products this day.

We aim to grow constantly and that is why our next campaigns continue with new records: in 2014 we had more than 110 000 sold products and more than 1.5 million visitors on the web page on this Black Friday day. In 2015 till 19:00 h. were ordered more than 154 000 products and 9 cars reserved.

In 2014 eMAG Bulgaria implement Marketplace platform, which helps our partners to offer their products on our web page. Starting with this we can offer to our customers the possibility to choose from huge range of products and our marketplace partners can work with us – one of the biggest online retailers in the region and to help the online retail business in Bulgaria to grow.

Next level: regional expansion

2012 marked eMAG’s affiliation to the South African Naspers group. This allowed us to develop on a regional level and invest even more in the growth of the ecommerce market.

In 2012 the office in Bulgaria was opened. We brought all our major shopping events: Crazy Days, Prices Revolution, Stock Busters and, last but not least, Black Friday, and today we are among the most popular local online shops. Bulgaria's success gave us the confidence to enter the Hungarian market in 2013, where we replicated the same business model. Today, eMAG Hungary offers its clients over 21 300 products in more than 700 categories. Since 2015 we are present in Poland also by acquiring Agito, one of the largest local online stores.

We continue to grow

IT eMAG Research is an entity dedicated to the development of software applications specialized in electronic commerce. Today we have a community of more than 500 passionate programmers who have developed more than 50 applications successfully deployed in all countries where we have offices.

In 2015 we launched in fashion, we acquired Fashion Days and created our own brand of clothing.
